Maria Lax

Extraterrestrial but not.

In the late 1960s, Pudasjärvi, a town in Finland, experienced a wave of strange views in the sky and the people began to believe that they were not the only one in our solar system.

Maria Lax, the Finnish filmmaker and photographer, returned to her hometown after she studied Film in the London Film School and one day she found a collection of first person accounts of some of these sightings and they have inspired her latest work.

A surreal view of the befogged forests at dawn, the flashing signs turning the earth into an utopic land when it is all covered by snow or the bizarre light arising from a basic mini fridge in the darkness of a room… These are all inspired by outer space while they belong to this one indeed.
