The quarter where the film is shot is one of the quarters of Ankara known as its poverty and hardship. Bearing the “crime” and “criminal” burden of the state for years as is in the quarters like it, the area has been formed with the immigrations from the East and Southeast regions between1950’s and 1960’s, and has been established with the shanty quarters, located on a high and mountainous area overlooking Ankara Castle, which is one of the old settlements. This culture established has always been a subject for the indecent and pragmatic intentions in the term policies of the state, not going forward from “election investments”. Road is constructed in one election, and water is provided in the other election. In other election period, these shanty structures without titles, which were once let to be inhabited by the state, are registered. Of course a part. Just as the country is shaped in the ways of free market economy, so the city, which is a product of these social relations, has undergone a change at the same level. The concept and boundaries of “City Centre” have disappeared, and as the “construction” and “desire for building” are expanded, this poor neighbourhoods contained in the boundaries of the city centre has started to be longed to be possessed. This operation conducted by TOKİ (Housing Development Administration of Turkey) has been aimed to deport these poor people, who have nothing but their sheltering homes, from their homes, destroying the culture formed over the course of years, “constructing” new buildings for the sake of income, thus making these areas available for the new owners. Deported from their homes and lives, thousands of people have been forced to be imprisoned in the far from sociality, without past and characterless buildings which are constructed in the city’s most farflung areas.
An attempt to transfer a social reality like the urban transformation, one of the main problems of the country and accelerated in recent years, to the cinema has affected the tone of the film and has brought to life as a realistic black-humour. “Yolunda A.Ş. Çinçin Bağları Hikayesi” movie, whose installation is now underway, is expected to come to the cinemas in February, 2015.
